With the re-launch of two University brands, TUKS and UP, Wannabee Clothing Store represents a medium for displaying the various brands of the University of Pretoria on apparel and other merchandise.
The creation of Wannabee is evidence of the high-level collaboration between E at UP and the professional services units within the University. The relationship marks the first licensed authority to act as brand custodian on behalf of the University, and many of its operating procedures are supported by divisions within the University to achieve optimum outputs towards the student market. The new clothing line is strategically targeted at young adults and intends to meet them on their level, while at the same time, encouraging an ethos of pride in the University of Pretoria.
The name WANNABEE is related to the formal heraldic heritage of the University of Pretoria. The Institution registered several iconic images as part of its’ Emblem and Crest of which the honey bee is an integral part of the branded intangible wealth of the University. The bee also symbolise the which notion that was creatively interpreted to establish the ‘want to be’ inspirational sentiment of the new brand.
We intend to speak indirectly to the young adult who has elected to study at the University of Pretoria with determined focus to become professionally equipped for an independent lifestyle. All of us have a need to achieve and be recognised as someone or for something and it is to this inherent desire of the human psyche that the WANNABEE Brand is directed.
The brand embodies the credibility of the University of Pretoria from a historic perspective and it will aim to deliver only quality, fashionable and modern merchandise and brand-label items. The brand does not only aspire to highest accolades in retail excellence, but is determined as on-campus clothing store to satisfy the fashion needs of an informed and discerning student-consumer.
The bee of Wannabee is the first registered icon of the brand as has been specifically designed to represent, within the ambit of its origin, the visionary leadership and dedicated ambition associated with the corps de esprit of the University of Pretoria.
We want to believe that a innovative creation has successfully linked the legacy and tradition of the University with the Wannabee brand, but that the former more structured glory of the bee has been packaged in a glamorous fashion-related product that will improve the on-campus experience of the student, whilst retaining a meaningful reference to the armorial collection of the UP as a world class institution of higher education.
